Key Military Developments in Ukraine: January 19, 2025

Donetsk Region

  • Pokrovsk Encirclement Threat: Russian forces are intensifying their offensive to encircle Pokrovsk, a crucial city for Ukrainian logistics and defenses. They have captured Kotlyne and are engaged in heavy fighting in Udachne's eastern sector, nearing "Mine #1". Russian forces are reportedly within 3 km of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast's administrative border and have severed one of two routes from Krasnoarmiisk (Pokrovsk) to Dnipro, specifically the road through Mezhova. They have reportedly liberated Vozdvyzhenka. The highway between Dmytriv (Myrnohrad) and Konstantinovka has been severed. The railway line between Dnipropetrovsk and Pokrovsk has been cut. Russian forces are advancing towards Udachne, which could become a stronghold for further advances towards the border of the Donetsk People's Republic. Russian forces are conducting assault operations towards Zverevo from Peschanoye and are consolidating their control over Shevchenko, using it as a stronghold. Russian DRGs have reportedly appeared near the road between Udachnoye and Novosergievka, less than 3 km from the border with Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. After the liberation of Kurakhovo and taking control of two stations west of Pokrovsk, Russian forces cut the penultimate railway line to Pokrovsk and the exit to the remaining "gut" Pokrovsk - Belozerskoye - Dubovo. The cut yesterday was not just a line, of which there are a great many, but the main line Donetsk - Pokrovsk - Chaplino - Sinelnikovo - Dnipropetrovsk. The military configuration of the roads now looks like this: (from the Russian side) 1 - New straightened route to Mariupol 2 - Restored 2-3 months ago section Donetsk-Glavny - Yasinovataya with access to Debaltsevo 3 - The main line to Mariupol, which could not be used before the hacking of the "Ugledar balcony".
